Investing in Building Producer Skills
The South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council invests checkoff dollars back into programs that help soybean producers continue to build the knowledge and business skills needed to thrive in the 21st Century.
This is accomplished through:
- The Select Yield & Quality (SYQ) Initiative, developed by our soybean checkoff, helps to ensure U.S. soybean farmers retain their share of the global soybean market and to provide an opportunity for farmers to increase oil and protein levels and obtain higher prices. The initiative focuses on meeting goals of 19 percent oil and 35 percent protein. The United Soybean Board and The South Dakota Soybean Processors are partners in this initiative.
- South Dakota Agriculture and Rural Leadership, Inc., (SDARL), is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to identifying and developing leadership for agriculture and rural communities in order to enhance the quality of life for all South Dakotans.
- Winning the Game is a series of workshops offered by the South Dakota State University Cooperative Extension to help producers hone their marketing skills. Developed by the University of Minnesota Center for Farm Financial Management, the "Winning the Game" workshops simulate real-life grain marketing decisions, enabling farmers to practice marketing without the risk of losing actual money. During the three-hour program, participants make grain marketing decisions based on actual market information. The South Dakota State University Cooperative Extension Service has partnered with the South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council to bring the workshops to South Dakota producers.
